Mathematics

In many classrooms, math is taught in a way that feels completely removed from the real world. It is decontextualized, abstract, and disconnected from students' lives. It’s also deeply colonized, often stripped of its relationships to place, people, and culture, or as Dr. Nikki Lineham calls it, "naked math". I love this term because it captures how math, as it's traditionally taught, is often presented without context, meaning, or cultural grounding.
